How to Win at Online Poker

Playing poker online is fast becoming a way for many to enjoy the sport of poker without all the hassles of traveling to another state or getting out in all kinds of weather to find a casino. Many states in the US do not even have one casino with any type of table games, thus many individuals cannot just drive down the street to play a hand. They must go on vacation to find a casino, thus the main reason online poker is so popular. However, do people real win at online casinos? The answer is yes, but you must know how to play in the virtual world in order to win.

Online poker is pretty much the same as in a casino. You can play in a virtual world today and even in a 3D world, making the game even more enjoyable. The 3D games are practically like being there only without all the noise that you found at casinos.

To win at online poker games, you still play just about, like you would in a casino. You should start out by playing your highest hand at the beginning of the poker game. You should also remember the old saying, “know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold”. If you think, you have a bad hand, fold. This way you will not lose as much, because no one wins every time. Online, you can watch the player’s faces and learn if they are bluffing, it is better to fold than lose a huge amount of money.

As you enter a poker room, observe before joining in. What are the stacks? If they are higher than you wish to lose, then leave. You can find a room where the stacks are not as high and you can enjoy winning.

If you are losing, lower your bet. You do not always have to bet the max. This will also help you win while minimizing your losses.

Even though, you are playing online, try to get to know the other players. Learn how they bet, their strategies, etc…, by watching the game prior to joining in if possible. You must still learn how to outsmart the other poker players in the room if you wish to win.

Not only must you learn about the other players, but you must also learn how to bet. Betting defensively is the best option. Learn how to bluff your opponents. This is a great way to win at any poker game. Your bluffs may not work on the hardcore players, but new poker players will fall into your trap.

Help answer the question about Poker

How to play poker at home without a dealer? To have poker night, what would be the ideal rules?
Some friends of mine are thinking of starting a poker night, I was curious on how the rules would be idealy. If there was no dealer, would the shuffle be done by each player once? Would the raising and calling take place before and/or after changing cards? If we were to play with a 100 $ each per night, what would be the best limits to have a good fun game. I need some experieced helps, no answers just for points please.

Thanks in advance.

They need to suckout enough to keep them coming back for more. Bad play yields bad results in the long run and good play yields good results. The problem that arises here is that people get upset by suckouts then end up playing like donks themselves. You won't make money consistently at poker until you get to the point where this stuff doesn't annoy you and also forget about any conspiracy theories you may have.

In poker we look for a slight advantage and push it hard and the main reason why people complain about suckouts so much is that they overestimate this advantage and underestimate the winning chances of their opponents.

The donks are entitled to the suckouts the same way as you're entitled to winning with the better hands and it's just that you're entitled a little more often is all.

Make better decisions than your opponents. (Good bets at favorable odds.)

How to make good decisions? – learn the game (read the main books, know how to calculate odds, learn how to read other players, learn how to think on Level 2 and 3, etc.), watch how the winning players play, and practice, practice, practice.

In the end, it always comes down to making better decisions than your opponents – good bets at favorable odds.

I'm not sure if Full Tilt (or any other site) has ever bothered to keep such a statistic. It would have to vary upon the type of SnG as well.

For 9 max, I would be surprised if it's over 15.

    Is it possible to win?

Absolutely. Of course online poker, just like casino poker, requires you to be a good card player to be a consistent winner.

    My experience?

I've been playing online poker since 2003. I've played real money at three different web sites, and play money at several more. I have never had any problems pulling money off the sites.

    Is it safe?

I believe it is. If you are playing on a major site it is completely safe.

    Dangerous web sites?

Play the major ones (I've added a link for you) and you'll be fine. Dishonest sites that steal your money don't last too long. Anyone that claims that some websites manipulate the cards to create unusual situations or bad beats or control the outcome of the game is retarded. Being realistic there is no logical reason for any legitimate site to do this. Also it would only take one programmer to blow the whistle and everyone would find out what was going on and stop using the site. The only reason you see more unusual situations in online play is because you see 3-5 times more hands playing online than you would in a casino.

    How much can you win?

It depends how good you are. I just saw Mike Matusow win $20,000 in just a few minutes the other day. I have a friend who wins several thousand dollars a month playing online. He even won a trip to the WSOP last year, a prize worth $13,000. So there is really no upper limit on what you can make. It depends on the stakes you play, whether you play in cash games or tournaments, and how good you are.

    Most honest?

I've had no problems with Full Tilt or Poker Stars, and the latter is by far my favorite. Again, take a look at the link.

You can deposit money with epassporte. Go to any of the sites you want to try and read their recommendations for American players. It is a little more difficult to buy in and cash out right now thanks to the law change that Bill Frist rammed down our throats. But there is nothing illegal about the act of playing poker online.

    Advice?

I suggest you try two or three sites and play with play money. See what you like. Do you like the graphics and sound of one more than the others? Do you like the features? Do you like the speed of the play and the availability of games?

When you have settled on a site you really like, buy in for some real money and start playing. Start with small stakes, smaller than you think you should and see how it goes. If you are a consistent winner (at least three sessions back to back) then give yourself a 'promotion' and play at the next level up. If you start losing go back to the lower level and try again.

You will want to play cash games, sit and go, and tournaments. Try all three and see which you like the best. Cash games allow you to make consistent money. You can afford to play pretty tight and play premium hands. The blinds never change so you don't have to gamble. Grind out some good money that way.

Sit and go offer tournament poker either on a single table or multi table format. I've seen sit and go tournaments with up to 180 players. This is a pretty cool concept because for a buy in of say $20 you can win $1000. A nice return. Of course it is not easy to beat 180 players. You just have to work at it. You may waste a lot of money in buy ins before you start cashing. Most sites offer some play money sit n gos.

Tournaments offer the chance to win massive prizes for a relatively small investment. Of course you will often have to beat several hundred players to make the money. This is never easy to do. But the rewards are often very big. Most sites offer major tournaments weekly that pay out more than $100,000.

So if you are interested in poker give it a shot. I've been playing since 2003, and I certainly enjoy it. There is a lot to learn, but it is worth the effort.

    Good Luck!

This is income from gambling. You must report it and you will be taxed accordingly. It doesn't matter how you withdraw it. You will receive a W2-G which will how your winnings and that must be put on your Form 1040. If you had any LOSSES, you can deduct that, but only up to the amount of your winnings. So if you lost $1000 you can deduct $1000. But if you lost $105,000 you can only deduct $100,000.

a friend offered me dan Harrington "strategy of no limit tournament" for my birthday. i have not finished to read it but i found really intersting advices in it.

the best thing for you is to practice on free tables with play money.
so you can improve your game without playing real money.
when you feel you are ready you can come back to real money games.
why don't you challenge yourself with this sentence
" i will play in real money money only when i 'll be able to win money in a freeroll tournament " .
that is what id did personnaly .
my result is : since may i won somthing like 10$ with freerolls.
and was happy to spend them on real money tables .

have a notebook where you can record your mistakes .

Analyse what you could have done to improve your win .
    and write it . may be you could post your hand here to have a good analysis of it ;

read it sometimes , and next time you see it happens again , apply new advises.

i would identify different types of mistakes :
not winning enough chips with a good hand ,
loosing chips with not such a good hand.
with the best hand after flop ,giving free (or very cheap) cards opponents , you loose at turn or river .

    examples :
you have AA before flop you go all-in and you get only 1SB and 2BB.
-> may be you could have won more with a different bet.

there's Ac7cAh on the flop you got an Ace and don't bet . (this is a first error)
turn comes a person who have Kc and another club raises 3xPot .
–> your 3 aces has not a big value against a flush. just one card to wait for a full –> if you call now you could make a second mistake !

you got AJ flop is J 5 2 you go all in and your opponent has a pair of Q in the hand . –> You lose all your chips.
